# PAM accounts

> Store the credentials for a database or server that people and agents connect to through Infisical PAM.

An account is a privileged identity on a database, server, cluster, or cloud provider, such as a database superuser or a domain admin, that people and [AI agents](https://infisical.com/docs/documentation/platform/pam/ai-agents/overview.md) use through Infisical. Infisical stores the account's credential along with the details it needs to reach the target. When someone connects, a [gateway](https://infisical.com/docs/documentation/platform/gateways/overview.md) supplies the credential, so whoever connects never sees it.

Each account belongs to one [folder](https://infisical.com/docs/documentation/platform/pam/folders/overview.md). A role on the folder gives access to every account in it, and you can also give someone a role on a single account. Each account also uses one [account template](https://infisical.com/docs/documentation/platform/pam/templates/overview.md), which sets the account type and the rules for its sessions.
